Fossil Fuels currently supply roughly 80% to 85% of the world’s energy
Edward Rubin, professor of environmental engineering
Fossil fuels are made from decomposing plants and animals. These fuels are found in the Earth’s crust and contain carbon and hydrogen, which can be burned for energy. Coal, oil, and natural gas are examples of fossil fuels.
It is a solid, carbon-heavy rock that comes in four main varieties.
They are differentiated by their carbon content:
It is a liquid fossil fuel made up mostly of hydrocarbons (hydrogen and carbon compounds).
It is odorless and invisible. It is lighter than air and made up mostly of methane gas, or CH4.
Fossil fuels have an age of more than 650 million years. Across the years, Sands and muds are buried on top of the dead organic matter. This occurrence will create suitable anoxic conditions that prevent decomposition without oxygen.
With heat and pressure, it will cause the organic matter to become chemically altered. This process will create Carbon compounds.
Hydrocarbon compounds will be formed after anaerobic decay.
They will permeate certain layers of rock and sediment as they move up towards the surface. In some cases, they become trapped in impermeable layers of rock.
That is the place in which oils are ultimately formed.
Fossil Fuels can be extracted from the ocean through FPSOs.
They are usually connected by flowlines and deployed near subsea facilities. Processing equipment can be found on FPSOs, which are able to complete water separation, gas treatment, oil processing, water injection, and gas compression operations.
Oil is stored onboard until it can be transferred to a tanker or a pipeline for transport.
Fossil fuel technology transforms nature to improve human life on an epic scale. It is the only energy technology that can currently meet the energy needs of all 7+ billion people on this planet.
Alex Epstein – The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels
People and goods are on the move faster and farther than ever due to the discovery of fossil fuel.
Fuel help to keep our economy running smoothly. The aviation industry uses 7.8% of oil worldwide, while maritime shipping accounts for 6.7%. Road transportation represents 49.3% of global oil consumption.
The latest durable lightweight prosthetic limbs are made from petroleum oil. It allows the wearer to reach for objects automatically without thinking.
At the same time, the petroleum-based products are customizable for a tight fit. Earlier forms of prosthetics were made up of metal or leather. Both were clunky and uncomfortable for the wearer.
The medical industry is able to invent light prosthetic limbs through petroleum oil. This invention help to increase the quality of life of millions of amputees around the world.
Vast amounts of oil are used as raw materials to manufacture fertilizers and pesticides.
They are available for all stages of food production.
